What the tip calculator shows
The tool gives you three numbers: the tip amount, the total to pay with the tip added, and how much each person owes when you split the bill. Change any input and all three update. It is a quick way to answer "how much to tip" and to split the bill without doing the sums by hand.

Here is the tip amount for a few common bills at the usual rates. In much of the United States, 15% to 20% is normal for table service. Use whatever fits your service and country.

Tax and the tip
Custom differs on whether the tip percentage goes on the pre-tax bill or the after-tax total. This tool works the tip out on the amount you type, so enter the pre-tax figure if you want the tip based on that.

How much should I tip?

How do I split the bill evenly?

Does the tip include tax?
Only if you type the after-tax amount as the bill. The tip amount is worked out on the number you enter, so use the pre-tax figure to tip on that.
